The undergraduate course of the
Department of Social Policy aims at the interdisciplinary study
of social policy and the acquisition on the part of students of
general basic knowledge on the areas of social policy,
sociology, social and political theory, social and economic
history, methodology, economic theory, law, geography,
demography and of special knowledge on particular fields of
social policy. This is the basis on which the programme of
studies is structured in compulsory courses of general knowledge
and the more special knowledge selection courses. The duration
of studies is four academic years, namely eight semesters.
The programme of studies includes
compulsory courses, selection courses, seminars and the
undergraduate essays (the six-month essays and the degree
essay). In addition, students may choose a certain number of
courses from Departments other than the Department of Social
Policy. The programme of studies is compulsory for the first
year, during which 12 compulsory courses are offered (winter and
spring semesters). For the second year, students are advised to
take the compulsory courses (12) offered and choose among the
selection courses from their third year of studies.
Three cycles of selection courses are
offered:
- Cycle 1: Work and Education
- Cycle 2: Area and Society
- Cycle 3: Inequalities and Social Protection
In addition, a choice of selection
courses which are a further specialization of the more general
compulsory courses is offered.
